RWD Life Science Co., Ltd. is a Shenzhen-based manufacturer of laboratory research instruments, pathology equipment and veterinary medical devices. The name comes from a phonetic rendering of "reward", reflecting the founders' aim to give back to science and society. Founded in 2002, RWD began with tools for preclinical research. In 2004, it launched what it describes as China's first domestically developed stereotaxic instrument, and over the following two decades it grew into four distinct fields. For laboratory animal research, it makes inhalation anaesthesia systems for animals up to 110 kg, stereotaxic frames for species from mice to primates, microinjection systems, the MP-1000 micropipette puller, laser speckle contrast imaging for real-time blood-flow monitoring, the R821 tricolour fibre photometry system and intelligent optogenetics platforms for neuroscience. Its cell and molecular biology line includes the C100 automated cell counter, the D180 CO2 incubator, high-speed refrigerated centrifuges, a single-cell suspension dissociator and the qTouch western blot imager. RWD entered clinical pathology in 2019 with its Minux rotary microtomes, later adding Minux cryostats such as the FS900, which section tissue at temperatures down to −35 °C. Its veterinary range covers anaesthesia machines, the R419 intelligent ventilator, multiparameter monitors and capnographs, complete dental units with dental X-ray, rehabilitation laser therapy and urinalysis systems.
Engineering is central to the business. RWD's research teams hold close to 100 invention and utility model patents worldwide, covering neuroscience instrumentation, cell biology, respiration and anaesthesia, and pathology. Manufacturing combines precision CNC machining with 3D inspection and Swiss-made measuring instruments, and the quality system traces every stage from design and procurement to shipment and service. The company was ISO 9001 certified in 2015. CE marking followed in stages: animal ventilators, anaesthesia machines, filter canisters, laryngoscopes and gas evacuation units in 2016; the ThermoStar homeothermic monitoring system, syringe pumps, sterilisers and oxygen concentrators in 2018; and water circulation pumps and cordless micro-drills in 2019. It registered its basic and micro-surgical instruments with the US FDA in 2015. RWD was named a National High-tech Enterprise in 2014 and was listed among Shenzhen's Top 100 Innovative Enterprises in 2021.
RWD opened its first overseas branch in the United States in 2013. By 2015, its products had reached more than 100 countries and regions. Its customer base now includes more than 6,000 universities, over 1,000 research institutes, more than 2,300 hospitals, and around 11,000 veterinary hospitals and clinics; the company also reports that over 30,000 veterinarians use its anaesthesia machines. Support goes well beyond delivery, with on-site installation and training, preventative maintenance, calibration services, live virtual product demonstrations and a growing international partner network. Through RWD Academy, the company runs webinars, courses and hands-on workshops in laboratory technique, and it funds the RWD Basic Medicine Scholarship to support young researchers. Guided by its core values of quality, integrity and responsibility, RWD is a trusted Chinese partner for research laboratories, pathology departments and veterinary practices that want precise, well-supported instruments from a single experienced manufacturer.
