Florida-based medtech firm Axogen has agreed to buy BioCircuit Technologies for $200m. The Axogen BioCircuit acquisition deepens Axogen's spot in surgical peripheral nerve repair.
The deal is all-cash. Axogen expects to close in Q4 2026. The Axogen BioCircuit acquisition adds NerveTape to Axogen's portfolio. NerveTape sits alongside the Avance nerve graft system and the Axoguard range of nerve connectors and protectors.
NerveTape is a notable pick-up for Axogen. It was the first sutureless peripheral nerve repair tool to win US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance. That happened in July 2022.
Axogen also gains BioCircuit's technology platform. That platform opens two doors. The first is fresh product work. The second is a push into new clinical uses.
NerveTape brings two ends of a severed nerve together. It uses miniature hooks to do that. The hooks align and hold the ends in place. That is meant to promote healing.
The device cuts down on microsurgical skill demands. Axogen argues that lets the tool reach a broader set of surgeons. It should also fit more care settings.
Axogen plans to run NerveTape through its own direct sales force. It will also lean on its hospital and surgeon ties. The aim is to speed up NerveTape uptake. It also aims to deepen the product's market reach.
Axogen president and CEO Michael Dale framed the deal around ease of use.
Dale said NerveTape "makes high-quality nerve repair simpler and more accessible for surgeons". Dale added that the tool offers a fresh way to simplify a hard part of nerve surgery.
Axogen CFO Lindsey Hartley framed the deal around growth.
Hartley called NerveTape an "attractive growth asset". Hartley said NerveTape should add to the company's revenue growth in the future.
The Axogen BioCircuit acquisition lands as competition builds in the sutureless space.
Tissium is a live rival. Its COAPTIUM CONNECT platform recently won FDA de novo authorisation for peripheral nerve repair. Coaptium uses light-activated surgical gel. That gel joins severed nerve ends inside a bioresorbable, 3D-printed chamber.
Coaptium is described as entirely atraumatic. That property could give it an edge over NerveTape in some cases.
Electronic stimulation devices are also in the pipeline for peripheral nerve repair. Neuraptive Therapeutics recently signed an exclusive licensing deal with Washington University in St. Louis. That deal covers a bioresorbable peripheral nerve repair device. Neuraptive's approach still needs a surgical step.
For peripheral nerve surgeons, hand and reconstructive teams, and hospital procurement, the Axogen BioCircuit acquisition brings two of the leading US brands under one roof.
The sutureless angle is what shifts the shape of the market. Coverage on Medigear.uk tracks the Q4 2026 close, NerveTape rollout post-close, and side-by-side data with Tissium's Coaptium Connect.
