Syrebo is the brand of Shanghai Siyi Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd., a neurorehabilitation company in Shanghai’s Pudong New Area that designs and builds robotic therapy equipment for people recovering from stroke and other neurological injuries. Since its founding in September 2017, the company has focused on bringing soft robotics into clinical rehabilitation. It describes itself as the first company in China to commercialise the technology for that purpose. Its best-known products are soft robotic hand rehabilitation gloves, which come in several versions. In clinics, Syrebo offers a hand rehabilitation robot that combines training and assessment, the SY-HR08E brain-computer interface (BCI) hand system that links movement to the patient’s own EEG activity, and the SY-BR09 EEG-based training and evaluation platform. The SY-HRE12 is a hand robot designed for home recovery. Beyond the hand, the range includes the SY-UEA2 upper limb rehabilitation robot with high-precision optical positioning, a soft exoskeleton walker that provides gait analysis and assistance, low- and medium-frequency electrotherapy systems, robotic mirror therapy and a line of assistive devices. Together, these cover rehabilitation from the hospital ward through to the patient’s home.
The company’s research team has more than ten years of combined experience in robotics, rehabilitation medicine and artificial intelligence. Its core technologies are soft exoskeletons, motion sensing, intent-recognition algorithms, electromyography and BCI. Syrebo holds more than 50 granted patents, including four PCT international patents, with over 100 applications filed. It has been certified as a Chinese High-Tech Enterprise since 2020 and named a Shanghai Patent Exemplary Unit. Its quality system was certified to ISO 13485 in 2021, the same year its products gained CE marking and FDA registration. In 2020, it received first prize in the Chinese Association of Rehabilitation Medicine’s Science and Technology Awards, and its BCI rehabilitation assessment system has won both Red Dot and iF design awards. Fortune China listed Syrebo among its most socially influential start-ups in 2023, and the company publishes plain-language summaries of peer-reviewed studies on its devices, including a 2024 randomised trial of robotic mirror therapy.
Syrebo equipment is used in more than 80 countries and regions, in over 4,000 hospitals and clinics and by around 60,000 families at home. Customers range from rehabilitation hospitals, neurology units and physiotherapy and occupational therapy clinics to individual patients and their carers. Clinics can request a free trial before committing, and each product includes a companion app, a library of guided rehab exercises, and a website available in more than a dozen languages. The company works with leading figures in global rehabilitation, including Rehabilitation International’s Professor Christopher Gutenbrunner, and has hosted clinical visitors from the University of Antwerp and from hospitals in Hong Kong. It regularly exhibits at MEDICA, CMEF, OTWorld, Naidex, Expomed Eurasia, and the Canton Fair. Syrebo’s stated mission is to make rehabilitation robotics accessible to hospitals, clinics and families alike. For rehabilitation centres and therapy teams seeking evidence-backed robotic tools for clinic and home care, Syrebo is a well-credentialed Chinese partner.
