The SY-HR08E is used in rehabilitation departments, stroke centres, neurosurgery, neurology, geriatrics, paediatrics, orthopaedics and physiotherapy units. The same glove system serves each of these settings because the therapist selects the training modes for each patient.
The indications named by the manufacturer are stroke, brain injury, cerebral palsy, hand trauma and orthopaedic surgery. Patients with muscle strength levels from 0 to 5 can train on the system. Use begins at the earliest stage of recovery and continues through the postoperative period.
At the lowest strength levels, the therapist uses passive training, where the glove moves the fingers and sets flexion and extension times separately. As the patient gains control, assisted training lets the muscle force sensor start the glove from the patient's own effort. Bilateral mirror training works both hands together, and resisted training at the low or the strong level builds grip. Fine motor and task-oriented training give the hand practice in everyday movements.
Interactive games and the pinch grip force game with a grip gauge turn repeated exercise into a task with a visible goal. Strength and coordination evaluation records each session's results, and trend reports show how a patient is progressing across the training plan.
Children use the smaller glove sizes 5, 7, 9 and 12, and adults use sizes S to XL. A therapist can train the left or the right hand with the matching glove. The anti-spasticity mode is available for patients with hand spasticity, and the semi-cut glove lets many patients put it on without help.
