Contact Lens Practices
Base curve measurement verifies what a lens actually is rather than what its packaging states, and no corneal measurement substitutes for that. Combined with keratometry from the same instrument, it covers both sides of a fitting, with decisions resting with the practitioner. Verification is regular work in such practices. Both sides of a fitting are covered. Lens parameters are read directly here. Fitting draws upon both measurements. Verification against packaging is routine work. Both sides of a fitting are served. Keratometry accompanies it.
Extreme Refractive Presentations
Sphere from minus 25 to plus 22 dioptres reaches further than the sibling instruments, so patients at the extremes fall inside the range. Where such cases form part of a caseload, that span decides suitability. Sibling instruments stop appreciably short. Caseload decides whether it matters. Extreme ametropia is measurable throughout. Suitability turns upon that span. Extremes decide whether measurement happens. Averages tell a buyer very little. Margins matter considerably.
Narrow Pupil Separations
Pupil distance measured from 10 millimetres reaches separations the siblings do not, which matters in paediatric work. Whether any individual patient can be measured remains a clinical judgement. Paediatric work benefits particularly here. Clinical judgement governs throughout. Ten millimetres is the documented minimum. Siblings begin at thirty instead. Paediatric separations fall inside the range. Siblings cannot reach them. Judgement remains clinical.
Practices Recording to a Computer
RS-232 serial output sends results onward, and video output drives an external display. Both remove manual transcription, though RS-232 is an older interface and current connectivity should be confirmed. Transcription errors disappear accordingly. Older interfaces need checking though. Serial and video outputs are both fitted. Connectivity should be established. Manual copying invites transposition errors. Direct output prevents that. Interfaces need checking.
