The LK128 Needle Guide is used for ultrasound-guided biopsy, a procedure in which the clinician follows the ultrasound image while placing a needle in tissue. A needle guide attaches to the probe and holds the needle on a set line, so the needle's route is known before it enters. The guide is designed for LeSONO LK128 handheld ultrasound scanners, with a convex version for convex scanners and a linear version for linear scanners.
The settings are those where a handheld scanner is used for sampling: imaging departments, outpatient clinics, and point-of-care areas where the scanner travels to the patient. A reusable stainless steel body suits repeated procedures, because the same guide returns to the probe for the next case. Each version weighs 90 g, so the guide travels with the probe as a single handheld unit.
The users are clinicians who perform ultrasound-guided biopsy. Before the procedure, the operator attaches the guide and selects one of three angles: 15°, 25°, or 35° on the convex version, or 41°, 49°, or 61° on the linear version. A needle anywhere from 11 to 23 gauge then runs along the chosen line while the operator watches the screen. Gauge numbers fall as needles thicken, so the range spans heavier and finer needles for different sampling tasks.
As a passive steel fixture, the guide is ready as soon as it is attached. The part numbers, M-As04-1004-A for the convex version and M-As04-1005-A for the linear version, identify the guide that matches each scanner in service.
