The KL05L (LED) is a ceiling-mounted surgical light for operating theatres that need very high illuminance while keeping electrical load and room heat low. Surgeons, anaesthetists, theatre nurses and the estates and engineering staff who run the building all have a stake in it.
Vascular and cardiac theatres are a natural fit. Arterial reconstruction, bypass grafting, aneurysm repair and open cardiac work demand a brilliantly lit, deep field for hours at a time, and 90,000 lux at 1 metre provides it. Colour rendering up to Ra 100 helps the team judge the colour of vessels, grafts, and perfused tissue, and the low radiant output per lux keeps exposed tissue from drying out.
General, trauma, and orthopaedic theatres use it for laparotomies, bowel surgery, fracture fixation, and joint replacement, where converging LED reflector units keep the field lit as the surgeon, assistant, and scrub nurse lean in. Obstetric and gynaecological theatres use it for caesarean sections and hysterectomies.
Its very low input of 36 VA appeals to hospitals expanding theatre capacity on existing electrical infrastructure, new-build surgical centres planning power budgets, and facilities where every watt counts. A light that draws so little also adds little heat to the theatre, which helps the room’s air handling keep conditions comfortable for gowned staff.
Because the lamp is fixed to the ceiling on a horizontal arm and drop arm, the floor around the operating table stays clear for the anaesthetic machine, image intensifier, instrument trolleys and the team. A centre handle lets the surgeon redirect the beam as the procedure moves from one part of the field to another.
