SurGenTec has signed an exclusive licence with Allevion Medical for the Vantage system, a disposable tool for minimally invasive lumbar decompression.
SurGenTec has signed an exclusive licence agreement with Allevion Medical for the SurGenTec Vantage decompression system, Medial Device Network reported. The deal gives the US company rights to a patented, disposable tool for minimally invasive lumbar surgery.
Under the licence, SurGenTec takes over Vantage, a spinal decompression platform. Vantage treats pain from lumbar spinal stenosis. Bone overgrowth, called hypertrophic bone formation, drives that pain.
Built-in, single-use lighting lets surgeons see the anatomy directly during a laminectomy or a laminectomy. SurGenTec says the design keeps control and precision while limiting harm to nearby soft tissue.
The workflow has three stages. Surgeons locate the target, visualise it and then decompress it. Guards protect delicate spinal structures from trauma. Depth-controlled tools then cut away the excess bone on the lamina and facet joints where overgrowth squeezes the spinal canal.
SurGenTec says standard decompression often needs larger openings and bulky tools to hold tissue back. That can mean more scar tissue, slower recovery and lasting pain.
It adds that other minimally invasive tools mostly work on soft tissue, such as the ligamentum flavum alone. That may not be enough when bone overgrowth causes the stenosis.
Vantage arrives sterile in a single use pack. Hospitals need no extra tools and no sterile reprocessing.
SurGenTec sales VP Matt Marta tied the deal to the company's product range. “This exclusive license agreement expands SurGenTec’s portfolio of innovative, minimally invasive spine solutions and aligns with our commitment to delivering advanced technologies that improve procedural efficiency and patient outcomes.”
He added: “Vantage complements our existing offerings by providing surgeons with a fully disposable system designed for precision and ease of use in treating lumbar spinal stenosis.”
SurGenTec is headquartered in Boca Raton, Florida. It builds products for orthopaedic and spine care. The company also supplies bone graft delivery, facet fixation, sacroiliac joint fusion, and synthetic biologics domestically and abroad.
The SurGenTec Vantage decompression system adds a fully disposable decompression option to a spine portfolio. According to the company, facilities that adopt it avoid reprocessing. Coverage on Medigear.uk tracks spinal device licensing and the wider minimally invasive spine market.
