MMI has raised $125 million in a Series D led by BioStar Capital to scale the Symani robotic microsurgery system and fund the REMIND Alzheimer’s trial.
MMI has raised $125 million in a Series D round to scale up the MMI Symani microsurgery robot, MedTech Dive reported. The company announced the funding on 8 October 2026. Existing investor BioStar Capital led the round.
BioStar Capital was joined by S3 Ventures, Angelini Ventures and an undisclosed strategic corporate investor. The three named firms are new to the cap table. MMI did not identify the corporate investor.
The Symani system is built for soft-tissue open surgery, including repair of lymphatic vessels and nerves. It filters out hand tremor. It then converts the surgeon's hand and wrist movements into miniaturised instrument motion.
A digital platform called Synaptix sits alongside the robot. Hospital teams can move it between operating rooms.
The FDA granted a de novo classification for microsurgery in 2024. The FDA granted clearance for soft-tissue dissection the following year. The system also holds CE mark certification in Europe.
MMI says about 50 systems are in use worldwide. Surgeons have used them in roughly 3,500 complex microsurgical procedures.
MMI plans to spend the proceeds on energy instruments, digital surgery capabilities and outcomes data. It will also fund the REMIND trial in Alzheimer's disease.
REMIND studies the safety and feasibility of procedures that restore drainage pathways in the deep cervical lymph nodes of the neck. The FDA allowed enrolment to grow to 15 patients this summer.
MMI CEO Mark Toland tied the raise to adoption so far. "We've proven there is demand for robotic microsurgery at leading institutions around the world," he said in a statement. "Now, our focus is translating that adoption into scale."
On the trial, Toland said: "Through research like REMIND for Alzheimer's disease, we're building the evidence and clinical experience that could help define where robotic microsurgery goes next, and the opportunities are remarkable."
The round moves the MMI Symani microsurgery robot from early adoption towards wider deployment. Buyers of surgical robotics will watch whether outcomes data and the REMIND results follow. Coverage on Medigear.uk tracks the funding and the wider robotic microsurgery market.
