The Occipital Screws are used in the Posterior Cervical Fixation System's occipital fixation option. Here, they hold an Occipital Plate onto the occipital bone. This is part of a construct that can span from the occiput down to the upper thoracic spine. The construct helps stabilise the occipitocervical and upper cervical spine. This covers cases such as rheumatoid arthritis, congenital anomalies, and injury-related instability. It also helps stabilise the lower cervical and upper thoracic spine. This covers cases after injury, tumour removal, or instability caused by a laminectomy. The screws are only used with a matched Occipital Plate. Their clinical role is set by the wider construct, not as a standalone bone screw. Surgeons pick the right screw length by checking occipital bone thickness on preoperative scans. This happens before final construct assembly and torque-limited locking.
