The FSL is used in prosthetic and orthotic clinics, limb-fitting centres, anaplastology practices and rehabilitation services that restore the appearance of the lower leg. Its users include people with a below-knee prosthesis who want the prosthesis to have the outline of a natural leg, and people whose own lower leg has lost its shape through injury, surgery or a congenital difference.
Focused design determines how the FSL is used. The clinician records the measurements that define the calf, usually taking the other leg as the reference, together with the wearer's skin colour, and Wonderful produces a silicone leg to that record. At the fitting, the leg is checked for how its contour compares with the other side from the front and in profile, and for its colour in natural light. Because the product concentrates on this one shape, the fitting concentrates on it too.
That makes the FSL a fit for services and wearers who care about how the leg looks in everyday clothing. A person who wears skirts, shorts or tights sees the shape of the lower leg every day, and so does everyone around them. A contoured calf made to their own measurements and colour restores the line of a leg, so the two legs read as a pair.
Typical uses include finishing a below-knee prosthesis for a wearer who wants a natural leg shape, restoring symmetry for a person with a calf difference, and replacing a worn silicone leg from the same record. Prosthetists and technicians manage the order and the fitting. In every case, the FSL is about one outline, the curve of a calf, made for one person.
