The FCSHP is used in prosthetic clinics, hand surgery and hand therapy services, plastic and reconstructive surgery departments and anaplastology practices that restore the hand after partial loss. Its users are people whose amputation passes through the palm, most often after a workplace or machinery accident or a crush injury, and people born with a partial hand.
Population fit is why a service chooses it. Hand loss through the palm leaves a defined missing section and a working remainder, and a half palm made to the remaining hand fills that section precisely. The wearer keeps the use of what remains, and the prosthesis restores the missing outline around it.
Clinicians and prosthetic technicians record the dimensions of the residual hand and the other hand, together with the skin shade, and Wonderful produces a half palm to those details. At the fitting, the prosthesis is placed over the residual hand and checked for outline, symmetry with the other hand and colour in natural light. Because both the palmar side and the back of the hand are formed, the result can be judged from either side.
Typical uses include restoring appearance after an industrial or agricultural hand injury, completing the hand after surgical removal of part of the palm, and providing a half palm for people with a congenital difference. Many wearers keep it for work, social life and photographs, the settings where hands are noticed. In each case, the FCSHP gives back the shape of a whole hand, mirrored on the one the wearer still has.
