The 2R8=M8 is used in paediatric prosthetic clinics, children's limb-fitting centres and prosthetic workshops that build lower-limb prostheses for children. Its users are children with transtibial or transfemoral amputation, or a congenital lower-limb difference, whose prosthesis needs a dependable link between the foot and the leg above it.
Its focused design suits workshop practice. A child's prosthesis is built from a socket down through any joints and a pylon to the foot, and the foot connection sits at the point that takes every step. The 2R8=M8 provides that connection as a single stainless steel part, designed for children and rated to 75 kg. Because it does one thing, it is quick to specify and straightforward to fit, and the prosthetist's alignment work can concentrate on the sockets and joints higher up the leg.
Durability matters at this point in the build. Children run, jump and play on every kind of ground, and the foot end of a prosthesis meets puddles, sand and grass. Stainless steel holds its strength and resists corrosion in those conditions, which keeps the connection sound between reviews.
Growth brings children back to the workshop often. As sockets and pylons are replaced, the foot adaptor is inspected, and where the new build allows, a sound adaptor can be reused. Typical uses include the foot connection on a child's first prosthesis, a replacement adaptor during a rebuild, and the foot link on a leg for an active older child within the 75 kg rating. In each case, the 2R8=M8 provides a durable, single-purpose join between foot and leg.
