The SJG-800 is aimed at optical practices and laboratories that want scanning, centring and edging on site, with room to grow into a linked set-up. In an independent optical practice, the scanner can sit at the dispensing desk, where a frame is traced in half a second while the customer is present, and the edger can work in the back room.
Dispensing opticians and optical technicians benefit from the scanner's real-time imaging guidance. The screen shows when the centre position has been reached, and the scanner removes the effect of lens power, prism and artificial parallax from its reading. The capacitive touch screen tilts from 20° to 100°, so it can be angled for a seated or standing operator.
Glazing staff work with pressure settings on the edger. Clamping pressure is adjustable in three steps, and grinding pressure can be varied to suit different lenses. Bevels and flat edges can both be polished, which covers full-rim frames as well as rimless and semi-rimless styles.
Optical laboratories with a growing order book can connect one scanner to two main machines and use the online function for networked operation. Two RS8000 automatic milling machines linked to one scanner form a processing centre.
Hospital eye departments and eye clinics with an on-site glazing area can use the system to complete spectacles for patients within the building, keeping the compact scanner in the clinic and the edger in a separate room.
Eyewear retailers with a central workshop can link scanners and edgers to build a small processing line around their branches.
