The CastVac 996 serves fracture clinics, plaster rooms and orthopaedic outpatient departments that remove casts with a Stryker cast cutter. Plaster technicians, orthopaedic practitioners, and nurses use it at the point of removal, where the vacuum hose runs to the cutter and sucks up dust and chips as the cast material is cut.
The cutter's own switch organises the work. With the function switch at standby and the cutter plugged into the CastVac outlet, setting the cutter to standard or high speed starts the vacuum. Turning the cutter off leaves the vacuum running for a further 10 seconds. Cutting and suction therefore sit under the one switch already in the technician's hand, across a whole clinic list. The On position runs the vacuum continuously, independent of the cutter.
Mobility suits departments with several cast bays. The CastVac Mobile Stand rolls on five locking casters and carries two hooks each for the hose, cutter,r and power cord, so the whole set moves to the next patient and locks in place.
Upkeep centres on one consumable. Replace the high-performance filter cartridge, REF 0986-500-000, when it is full or damaged. You change it at the canister: two latches release the lid, and pulling and twisting the hose connector frees the cartridge. Wipe the exterior clean with a soft cloth, mild non-abrasive detergent, and water.
Power comes from an earthed 220–240 V, 50–60 Hz supply. The outlet on the canister is reserved for the Stryker cast cutter REF 0941-000-000 and can supply up to 0.75 A, so the cutter and vacuum share a single wall connection.
