The SC CH serves paediatric dental practices that prepare root canals in primary teeth and want short files sized for children. SOCO lists paediatric root canal therapy as the setting, with the clinician choosing the taper set and motor settings.
The two sets share tip diameters of 17, 20, 25 and 30 and differ in taper. The 04 taper set includes sizes 1708, 2004, 2504, and 3004, and the 06 taper set includes sizes 1708, 2006, 2506, and 3006. SOCO says to choose based on the primary tooth's thickness, and it recommends the 04 taper for more curved canals. Each set includes a short list of four sizes, keeping the choice at the chair simple.
Motor settings follow the set. Size 1708 runs at 300 rpm with 3.0 N.cm; 04 taper sizes run at 350 to 375 rpm with 1.5 N.cm; and 06 taper sizes run at 350 to 375 rpm with 2.0 N.cm. A short routine results because the motor changes only between size 1708 and the others, or between the two sets.
Length matters in a small mouth. Size 1708 is listed at 10 mm, and every other size at 16 mm, and SOCO describes the files as short and small for children's limited mouth opening.
Yellow, red, and blue collars let the team sort the files at a glance. Yellow, red, and blue mark the sizes in each set so a dental assistant can lay out the tray by colour, and the clinician can read the tip diameter from the handle during treatment.
