The SC-1600 Pola serves refraction rooms in optometry practices and ophthalmology clinics that test distance vision at working distances of 2.5 to 6 m. Its main argument is its binocular capability. Polarised charts for binocular tests sit on a 17-inch LCD that displays visual acuity from 0.04 to 2.0, so one chart covers monocular acuity work and the binocular checks that follow it, without a change of equipment between tests.
The working distance is selectable, and the image size adjusts with the distance, so the visual angles stay consistent in rooms of different lengths. Single letters and horizontal or vertical line masks are always centred, and a centre display function keeps the patient looking at one point. The chart shuffles characters in order, making memorising a sequence useless, and a contrast test extends the examination beyond high-contrast acuity.
A wide bezel leaves much space around the display for precise measurement and inhibits fusion stimuli from other images in view. A remote control operates the chart and synchronises with the NIDEK Intelligent Refractor via an optional cable or infrared unit. The examiner then adjusts the chart from the refractor console without leaving the patient. Slide images can be stored on an SD memory card.
Power is supplied at 100 to 240 V, 50/60 Hz. The unit measures 520 × 544 × 47 mm and weighs 5 kg, making it suitable for slim installation in a busy refraction room. The slim 47 mm depth leaves the wall or stand free for the rest of the examination equipment.
