The 27017BA serves urology departments that perform cystoscopy with rigid instruments and need a fine-diameter telescope in the kit. Urology theatres, endoscopy suites, and clinics all use this type of telescope, and the urologist, endoscopy nurse, and reprocessing staff each handle it at a different point in the process. The instrument has a 1.9/2.1mm shaft and an 18cm length. The fine shaft suits work where a slim optic is the priority, and the short length keeps the eyepiece close to the tip. The 30° forward-oblique direction of view adds range: the surgeon looks forward and to one side of the axis, and turning the telescope about that axis carries the line of sight around the field. A fixed 30° direction of view gives every user the same reference from case to case, which makes the image familiar across a whole list.
The image and light share one shaft. A rod-lens system relays the image from the tip to the eyepiece, and the fibre-optic light carrier built into the shaft takes light from the light post to the tip. A fibre-optic light cable joins the post to the light source, so the department needs one cable run and one optic for each examination.
Upkeep is simpler because the optic is reusable. The telescope needs reprocessing before first use and between cases, which lets one instrument return to the next list. With no electrical parts, pre-list checks focus on the optic, the eyepiece lens, and the light cable connection.
