Zocdoc has acquired Sohar Health, its first acquisition since 2007, bringing automatic insurance eligibility checks under its ownership. Medigear.uk covers the deal.
The Zocdoc Sohar Health acquisition closed on 2 October 2026, and the companies announced it on Wednesday, 14 October. Zocdoc, the online medical scheduling company, bought Sohar Health, a startup that runs automatic insurance eligibility checks. It is the first acquisition since Zocdoc was founded in 2007.
Sohar is based in New York. A physician and an engineer founded it in 2023. Its platform checks insurance eligibility in real time. The company says 90% of verifications finish within 30 seconds. Last year it closed a $3.8 million seed round, with Kindred Capital as lead investor.
Patients booking on Zocdoc enter basic details such as name and date of birth. Sohar's technology then verifies their insurance and determines whether a provider is in network. Zocdoc has used Sohar's tool since last year, so the deal firms up an existing partnership.
Financial terms were not disclosed. Zocdoc says it has no plans to cut teams or roles. Sohar will continue under its own name, with its products unchanged. Its technology stays available to Zocdoc users.
Dr. Oliver Kharraz, founder and CEO of Zocdoc, spoke about the wider aim in a statement. "As we build the healthcare access infrastructure that powers care everywhere patients search, we are investing deeply in making the experience of finding and booking care more seamless for more patients at scale," he said.
Last month Zocdoc launched an enterprise platform called Care Access Network. It places Zocdoc's clinician search and scheduling inside third party apps, insurer websites and AI tools. Partners include Amazon Health AI, Google Gemini, Yelp, Blue Shield of California and Healthgrades. Patients on those platforms can find care powered by Zocdoc's technology.
The company reached a $2.3 billion valuation in May. It became a unicorn in 2015, then ran into trouble with its flat rate subscription model. In 2018, it switched to charging providers a per-patient fee per booking. Five years later, it reached sustained year over year profitability.
The Zocdoc Sohar Health acquisition puts insurance checks under Zocdoc's ownership while the platform pushes its scheduling into more channels. Medigear.uk follows the Zocdoc Sohar Health acquisition and wider health tech deals.
