Fukushima works as three regions around Koriyama, Iwaki and Aizu. MediGear partners cover each on its own terms.
Fukushima is among the largest prefectures and splits into three distinct regions, so a medical equipment partner here covers Nakadori, Hamadori and Aizu as separate markets. Fukushima Medical University Hospital leads specialist care, the large private hospitals at Koriyama carry heavy volume, and Iwaki and Aizuwakamatsu serve the coast and the west.
MediGear is a UK-registered medical equipment distributor and B2B marketplace working with verified manufacturers and healthcare buyers in more than 80 countries. Its partner program opens that catalogue to businesses in Fukushima selling into Fukushima Medical University Hospital, the large hospitals at Koriyama, the Iwaki city hospitals, the Aizuwakamatsu hospitals, municipal hospitals, clinics, dental practices and diagnostic laboratories.
Three program tracks are open to businesses in Fukushima. Different business models, the same catalogue behind them — the right one depends on how much of the transaction you want to own.
Agents introduce qualified hospitals, clinics, distributors and procurement teams to MediGear. The role focuses on generating opportunities and connecting buyers with the team; MediGear handles quotations, supply, documentation and fulfilment. Earnings are commission-based on confirmed sales; no purchasing or inventory is required, and sales materials and product support are provided. The role suits representatives who can work three regions with different referral patterns, and who treat Koriyama as a commercial centre in its own right. Care facilities across the prefecture order steadily. Small clinics buy one item at a time. Diagnostic laboratories at Koriyama replace analysers on a planned cycle.
Distributors represent MediGear in an agreed country, region or territory and actively develop the local market — Fukushima on its own, a two-prefecture area, or national coverage of one product group. Products are purchased at distributor level for onward supply, and territorial rights may be exclusive or non-exclusive. Market development, commercial support, and regulatory and import coordination are included.
Resellers purchase at wholesale and resell independently through an existing medical business, online store, sales network or customer base. Order quantities are flexible, and you sell on your own terms to your own customers. Resellers operate independently without territorial or official distribution rights, so there is no territorial commitment and no market development obligation.
The program is open to Japanese companies holding a corporate number and a genuine route to healthcare buyers. Applications commonly come from:
Equipment distributors and importers already supplying public and private hospitals
Independent sales agents with contacts in theatre, imaging, pathology or dental
Online medical supply stores and e-commerce operators
Biomedical engineering firms adding equipment sales to service contracts
Practice fit-out, day surgery and healthcare project companies
Dental, laboratory and long-term care equipment resellers
Persistence matters more than size. Koriyama hospitals decide quickly once they trust a supplier, while the university hospital works through a longer evaluation. Aizu buyers ask about winter service before anything else. Shirakawa and Soma order in modest rounds. Koriyama clinics buy small items often. The Aizu hospitals plan around snow. The university hospital runs a long evaluation before it adds a supplier.
Competitive margins. Partner-level commercial terms apply across the catalogue, with performance recognised for partners who hit agreed targets.
Full product catalogue. Certified equipment across diagnostics, surgical and therapeutic, lab and pathology, sterilisation, hospital furniture, dental, ENT and ophthalmic, rehabilitation, orthopaedic, cardiology, gastroenterology, neonatal, dermatology, veterinary and spare parts.
Sourcing and quotation support. Send an enquiry and the team sources the product, negotiates with the manufacturer and returns a documented quotation — including items outside the current catalogue.
Direct partnerships team. Order queries, supplier negotiations, logistics coordination, and after-sales issues go straight to the team by email, so you can focus on selling rather than chasing suppliers.
Marketing support. Co-branded brochures, digital assets, product imagery and joint campaigns you can put in front of buyers in Fukushima.
Regulatory support. Country-specific import guidance, certification documentation and connections to local regulatory consultants for market entry questions.
Medical devices are regulated under the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Law, with scientific review carried out by the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency and approvals issued through the health ministry. Devices are classified into four risk classes with different routes for each, and guidance is published by the PMDA.
A marketing authorisation holder established in Japan is required, holding the appropriate business licence, and lower-class devices are certified by registered certification bodies while higher-class devices are approved centrally. Policy and licensing sit with the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.
Import clearance is handled by Japan Customs, with regulatory status checked alongside tariff treatment at the point of entry. MediGear is not the marketing authorisation holder for partner products and does not give regulatory advice.
Apply online. Complete the partner application form and tell us about your market, your experience and which track interests you.
Discovery call. The partnerships team reviews your application and arranges a call to discuss goals, coverage and fit.
Agreement and onboarding. Sign the partner agreement and complete onboarding, including commercial terms, product training and marketing assets.
Start earning. Begin selling, distributing, or referring while MediGear coordinates manufacturing, documentation, and freight.
Documentation quality is the first requirement. Japanese reviewers and buyers both expect complete, consistent technical files, and gaps that would pass elsewhere stop a submission here. Prefectural licensing runs from Fukushima City, and most partners hold stock at Koriyama because it sits on the main corridor. Documentation prepared for the university hospital carries across the prefecture. Licensing is handled in Fukushima City, and most partners keep their stock in Koriyama. A Fukushima City registration covers Koriyama and the coast alike.
Service depth is the second. Uptime expectations are high, and a partner with trained engineers and spare parts on hand meets a standard that decides repeat business.
Long-horizon supply is the third. Hospital investment has been substantial in recent years, and buyers weigh long-term parts availability heavily. The Tohoku Expressway and Shinkansen run through Nakadori, while Iwaki is reached along the coast. Roads through Nakadori stay open all year, and the coast is reached along Route 6. Koriyama sits on the main line, which makes it the natural place to hold stock.
This page is published for general business and information purposes and is not an offer of partnership. MediGear reviews all applications, and approval is not guaranteed. Any partnership that proceeds is governed by the written terms agreed between MediGear and the partner. Product availability, category coverage, territory arrangements, commercial terms and any commission or margin structure vary by application and may change. The regulatory information here is general information about the Japanese framework and is not legal, regulatory or professional advice. Requirements under the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Law, administered by the health ministry with review by the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency, depend on the device, its classification, its intended purpose and the marketing authorisation holder appointed in Japan. Partner businesses remain responsible for confirming what applies to their own products, and should obtain qualified regulatory, customs or legal advice where required.
Apply with your business details, the parts of Fukushima you cover and the track that interests you. The MediGear partnerships team reviews every application and will come back to you to discuss it.
The program is open to Japanese companies holding a corporate number and a genuine route to healthcare buyers: equipment distributors and importers, independent sales agents, online medical supply stores, biomedical engineering firms, hospital project companies, and dental, laboratory or long-term care resellers. Speciality experience carries more weight than company size. Applicants in Fukushima serving the medical university hospital or the Koriyama hospitals are strongly placed.
Three. Sales agents introduce hospitals, clinics, distributors and procurement teams and earn commission on confirmed sales without holding stock. Authorised distributors represent MediGear in an agreed territory, purchase at distributor level and develop the local market. Resellers buy at wholesale and resell independently through a business they already run, without territorial rights or commitments.
No. Joining is free for Japanese businesses. There are no registration charges, subscriptions or upfront payments required to become an agent, distributor or reseller. Distributors and resellers purchase the products they sell, and partners handle their own local delivery, storage and any marketing they run beyond the assets MediGear provides.
Agents earn commission on confirmed sales rather than a retainer. The rate depends on the product category, the order value and the volume you bring, and is confirmed in writing before you begin introducing buyers. Because agents hold no stock and carry no inventory risk, earnings simply follow completed orders.
Exclusive territorial rights are available to qualified distributors who can demonstrate market reach, financial capability and alignment with MediGear standards, and are assessed case by case. Non-exclusive distribution is also offered and is more common for partners entering a new product category. A territory may be one prefecture, a region, or national coverage of a single product group. Fukushima is usually held whole, since the three regions share a prefectural procurement framework.
Partners receive onboarding, product knowledge materials, regulatory guidance for their market, sales tools and co-branded marketing assets. The partnerships team handles order queries, supplier negotiations and logistics coordination, including certification and customs documentation for inbound consignments.
Yes. Devices are classified into four risk classes under the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Law, with lower classes certified by registered certification bodies and higher classes approved centrally following review. A marketing authorisation holder established in Japan is required. MediGear is not the marketing authorisation holder for partner products, so confirm your position with the authorities.
Not on its own. Approvals from Europe or the United States support a Japanese submission and are commonly included in the dossier, but Japanese certification or approval and a domestic marketing authorisation holder remain separate requirements. Confirm the route for each device class before quoting.
