Hitachi Healthcare: Pioneers in Ultrasound

Hitachi Healthcare is recognized as a pioneer in ultrasound technology and is regarded as one of the oldest ultrasound innovators in the world. Its origins trace back to 1950 in Japan, when the medical equipment division of Japan Radio Company became an independent organization named Medical and Physical Institute Co., Ltd.

In 1976, the company adopted the name Hitachi Healthcare, symbolizing a “Ray of Hope,” a meaning rooted in ancient Sanskrit. Over the decades, it has played a significant role in advancing ultrasound imaging technology.

Since the early 1970s, Hitachi Healthcare’s ultrasound systems have been introduced to the United States market through distribution partners such as Johnson & Johnson Ultrasound and Corometrics Medical Systems, Inc., which also provided service and support for its equipment.
